Services

  • Inspections are provided for all food establishments in Brown County to safeguard public health and promote safe, unadulterated, and honestly presented food to consumers.  Each establishment receives 2 inspections each year, providing guidance towards meeting the regulations established by the Texas Food Establishment Rules (TFER).
  • Review of plans and site for new establishments or remodels are completed upon request.  Please call (325)646-0554 to make an appointment.
  • Reminders:
    • Establishment must have a completed inspection and permit prior to opening
    • All employees must have a Food Handlers Permit.
    • Each establishment must have at least one Certified Food Manager.
    • A valid Certificate of Occupancy from the City of Brownwood or approval from the county inspector in Brown County is required prior to issuance of a Food Establishment Permit.

Permit Fees for Food Establishments

  • One-Year Permit (January 1 – December 31): $215.00
  • Includes two inspections per year
  • Seasonal Permit (up to 6 months): $100.00
  • Reinspection Fee: $115.00
  • Temporary Permit (1 to 14 days): $52.00
  • School Cafeterias, Warehouses, and Grounds: $175.00
  • Late Fee for Food Permits: $50.00

Please note: Fees may be doubled or a fine may be imposed if operations occur without a valid permit.
