Brown County is currently under a burn ban. Burn bans are enacted at the county level based on local drought, wind and other conditions, and the threat of wildfire. When enacted, outdoor burning is prohibited for public safety, including campfires, controlled burns, etc. Below are examples of do's and don'ts when it comes to burn bans according to City Ordinance 38-3. and the Brownwood Fire Chief:
- Burning of leaves, papers, or trash of any kind is prohibited in the city and outside of the city limits
- Open flame pits of any kind are never allowed in the city and outside of the city limits which includes campfires and outdoor fire pits unless a special permit is issued and there is a special circumstance such as a controlled vegetation or brush pile burn
- BBQ Grills including City park grills are not prohibited, however, should be used with safety precautions.
