Brownwood Fire Department Responds to Grass Fire East of Hoover Street

Units responded to a report of a grass fire on the railroad tracks just north of the Brownwood Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Brownwood units arrived on scene to find a fast moving grass fire moving north/northeast between the railroad tracks and the Pecan Bayou. Access was gained by going under the railroad trussels and attacking the fire on west flank. Early units and TFS engines staged on the east side of the Pecan Bayou in case it jumped. TFS had 2 dozers and 1 maintainer arrive on scene to assist in cutting a fire break/line on the west, north, and south end of the fire. Containment of the fire was at 6:14 pm. Crews remained on scene to mop up numerous hot spots. Total acreage burned: 72 acres
