Fire Department

The mission of the Brownwood Fire Department is to minimize the loss of life and damage to property and the environment resulting from fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and disasters through fire suppression, medical services, prevention, education, and other related emergency and non-emergency activities.

We will actively participate in our community, serve as role models, and strive to effectively and efficiently utilize all of the resources at our command to provide a service deemed excellent by our citizens.


Brownwood Fire-Rescue is an all career Fire Department and the only Fire Department in Brown County with paid firefighters. The department has 30 shift personnel with a Captain and a Lieutenant on each shift. The Fire Marshal Office is comprised of 1 full time Fire Marshal and 1 part time Fire Inspector. Brownwood Fire-Rescue is led by a Fire Chief and 1 Assistant Fire Chief with an administrative staff consisting of a part time Secretary/Receptionist.

Response Area

The department responds to calls from 2 fire stations. Brownwood Fire-Rescue response area includes the City of Brownwood and Brown County covering over 900 square miles.

Response Situations

The department provides Medical First Response for medical emergencies within the City of Brownwood and responds to the following situations:
  • Hazmat emergencies
  • Rescue emergencies
  • Structure fires
  • Vehicle accidents
  • Wild land fires
